More Bad Press for Knicks Sex Harassment Suit
More criticism of the New York Knicks’ actions leading up to the recent Isiah Thomas $11.6 million sexual harassment verdict we reported on previously . . .
Echoing the sentiments of other commentators, NBA Commissioner David Stern shared his thoughts yesterday on ESPN. He said: “It demonstrates that they’re not a model of intelligent management. There were many checkpoints along the way where more decisive action would have eliminated the issue.” Ouch.
The lessons? Again: (1) take decisive investigatory action on all complaints of discrimination or harassment (even if they’re against a living legend) and (2) strongly consider early settlement if there is evidence of wrongdoing and/or if serious brand/PR damage could result. Had the Knicks done both those things, you probably wouldn’t be reading this right now.
