It’s Administrative Professionals Week

This week, we get a chance to celebrate the employees who keep businesses all over the world from falling apart.

It’s Administrative Professionals Week.  Wednesday is Administrative Professionals Day.

According to the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP), the theme of this year’s celebration is “Forward Moving,” which “denotes how career-minded administrative professionals are positioning themselves for success in today’s every-changing business environment.”

How To Celebrate?

Looking for ideas to celebrate this auspicious occasion?  The IAAP conducted a poll to see what administrative professionals really like.  Recognition is important but — in line with this year’s theme — education/training was high on the list.  Here are the top responses:

  1. Company-wide recognition/special event
  2. Training/educational to improve skills
  3. $$$
  4. Day off
  5. Individualized recognition (cards, gift certificates, lunch, candy, etc.)

Manpower has created a variety of ecards to help you express your appreciation.  Just click here to send one.

You could also be highly creative and tie your celebration to this week’s other observances:  National Chocolate-covered Cashews Day (today), National Jelly Bean Day (22nd) , Red Hat Day (25th) and/or International Hug an Australian Day (26th).  (Please exercise appropriate caution if you choose the latter.)

Administrative Professionals Week Facts & Figures

  • National Secretaries Week was started in 1952.
  • The name was changed to Administrative Professionals Week in 2000.
  • There are nearly 9 million administrative professionals currently working in the U.S., according to the Department of Labor.
